From Drupal 7 to Drupal 10 with Tailwind and Workspaces

Introduction
In collaboration with Sping Digital Lab we updated a content-rich Drupal 7 website to Drupal 10.
CodeLift formed the technical Drupal team, and we were responsible for rebuilding the website and migrating all existing content, Views, Taxonomies. We are specialised in updating content rich Drupal 7 websites so this project fits us well.
A big job because the website had a lot of pages and had been around for 10 years.

The challenge
This NHG's website is a repository of 2500 content items, each interlinked to many others, forming a complex content structure. Objectively a type of website where the Drupal CMS shines. A long term supported Drupal system was necessary, because of Drupal 7 upcoming end-of-life date.
The site offers a personalized experience to its users, where logged-in visitors could access a different version of the content based on their subscription level.
The teamwork between Sping Digital Lab and CodeLift shows how with the right plan and hard work, updating a website can lead to great results. Now, the website is ready for the future, offering a better experience for its visitors and editors.
Our solution
Collaboration for success
Working alongside Sping Agency, the main contractor, our role was to carefully plan and execute the migration of all 2500 content items to Drupal 10 without losing the relationships between them.
Technical execution
Our first step was to conduct an audit of the existing site to understand the complexity of its content structure and navigation. We then opted to migrate the existing functionality and content as much as possible. This worked really well, because the existing system had been working for a long time and the client preferred to keep most functionality and content.
Redesign with TailwindCss
With the content safely migrated, our next mission was to give the website a fresh look that reflected NHG's corporate identity. We choose to not change the SEO-structure which made it possible to validate the before and after easily. We use TailwindCSS as a frontend framework and this worked out really well for our developers and with a great final result.
Scheduled publication workflow
With Drupal core' Workspace module combined with custom code the system allows for periodic content publication. This special requirement allows for the editorial team to publish many content changes at once.
Personalized access
We implemented a single-sign-on (SSO) system. This allowed users to log in securely and access content tailored to their subscription level.
Results
Modern Drupal website
The website now runs on Drupal 10. It's faster, safer, and easier for editors to use. This means a better website for everyone who visits it.
Better user experience
The new design and improved site navigation have been met with positive feedback from users. The ability to log in and access personalized content has made the website not just a source of information but a valuable resource for NHG's audience.
